Since this Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial start to summer, you might be dusting off those gardening gloves to spruce up your home.
But if you’re looking for an easy way to keep plants alive this year, check out these three products featured in the video above that make it quite simple.
1. “Let’s Patch” Self-Watering Planter
Sometimes knowing just how much water plants need is tricky. The Let’s Patch self-watering planter is specially designed so you won’t over- or under-water your plants or herbs. Basically, the soil is layered above a water reservoir in the planter, which self-regulates the watering process. It does this through capillary action, which is sort of like how a sponge soaks up water.
All you have to do is add water to the reservoir.
2. Flower Power Smart Device
If you really want detailed data about your summer garden, Parrot’s Flower Power tool keeps you in the loop via a smartphone app. (Parrot is the company behind wireless tech like the AR.Drone quadcopter.)
Shaped like a pair of shears, the Flower Power goes inside the soil of an indoor or outdoor plant. The brainy device can then measure temperature, humidity, sunlight and fertilizer levels. All that data is sent to the cloud, where you can check out those stats via a smartphone app and know how to help keep plants alive.
3. Click & Grow’s Smart Herb Garden
The Smart Herb Garden from Click & Grow creates a self-contained growing environment for plants.
Simply choose special seed cartridges with various herbs and put that into this garden. You do need to plug the Smart Herb Garden into an outlet and add water. But after that, the garden sustains itself through auto-watering and special LED lighting.
Earlier this spring, Click & Grow successfully raised more than $625K in a Kickstarter campaign for this product.
